A Brief History of the Bedminster Church of Christ, Bristol The first Bedminster Church of Christ was established in 1862, meeting in the Temperance Hall, East Street. The little congregation never owned its own building but used a succession of hired accommodation, including the home of Charles Lewis (Treasurer) in Fraser Street, Windmill Hill, and the Canynge Hall in Freshford Lane, just off Redcliffe Street. A second Bedminster congregation was established in 1895 and met in the Albert Hall, West Street. |

In 1901, the two congregations merged and began using the Christian Mission Hall, in West Street, which was to be their home for nearly forty years. In 1939, the church purchased the St Johns Lane Chapel from the Independent Methodists and, after essential alterations including the installation of a baptistery, the opening meeting was held on 19th. August 1939. Despite the difficulties of the war years, good progress was made and the congregation began to grow. In the years since then, thousands of children have passed through our Sunday School and at least 150 people have been baptised in the chapel. Our church now comprises 66 members.
